Another one of these strange tracks that could only ever appear on an album as only the brave or the foolhardy band would ever think that such a composition could be released as a single – having said that, The Orb did appear on Top Of The Pops ‘performing’ Blue Room by sitting there playing chess to an even more ambient piece of music! This dreamy slice of balearic-ness is stowed away as the last track on their Songs From The Big Chair album and has always been a favourite of mine. I first had the album on cassette in my formative years before I got addicted to the black crack and even though the song and the album as a whole can seem a little pretentious, such minor niggles are easy to put aside as you are borne along by this album finale.
