A funk bomb fo’ yo’ earz. I went through a phase of getting into all things funk in the early to mid nineties but balking at the cost that original seven inch singles seemed to change hands for, settled for buying a few Classic Funk Mastercuts compilations albums instead, amongst others. My then tall lanky flatmate had this on a War compilation which, along with Low Rider, were frequently gracing the turntables and delivering the funk.

One of my favourite movies with an outstanding soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. An huge brush-stroke of a film that has Clint Eastwood as one of three gunslingers searching for Confederate gold, with the backdrop of the American Civil War; what more could you want? A melancholy tune that I tend to play when feeling a little maudlin myself.

Barry Louis Polisar – All I Want Is You

If I ever get around to learning to play the acoustic guitar that I bought eight years ago, it will cease to be a fake accoutrement of my musical ability and instead be used to serenade a lady around a camp fire; this would be one song that I would learn to play. A simple acoustic song (well, apart from needing the ability to play the harmonica at the same time if performed) that I came across after watching the film Juno; short and sweet, maybe the lyrics are a little too saccharine for some but they tug at the incurable romantic in me. The whole soundtrack is well worth a listen and although this song originally appeared on Barry Louis Polisar‘s album, Old Dogs New Tricks, I prefer the stripped down version used in the opening credits in the film which you can view on YouTube.
