Excited by the promise of this new label so I’ve decided to disseminate a track from each of the first two releases as any label that continues to push vinyl deserves the support. The first is the ‘broken techno’ of Tropic Of Capricorn followed by the gentle harp-infused jazz-influenced South Central; I also played a couple more of the tracks on last weekend’s EstimuloShow. With a polished website that indicates that they have artists like Kirk DeGiorgio and Vince Watson on board, a promising schedule of future releases beckons. Albeit one that seems to have slipped with the next two releases (IA1.2 & IA2.2) due to have been released in August; the samples on their webpage (currently not working) sounded very encouraging.

Download Vince Watson - Live At Kozzmozz

Downloaded 175 times

If you’re not familiar with the work of Vince Watson then this is an excellent place to start. A live set that collated most of his then recent productions and remixes and as such an ideal introduction to his crisp techno ‘flava’. Just short of an hour long, it avoids getting too relentless with the beats and has plenty of lush sounds to keep you interested; hell, it would make a good workout mix if you’re that way inclined!

Timeless Detroit techno, released in 1993 but still sounds as relevant now amongst contemporary techno releases today. It’s has an enduring simplicity; the relentless techno 4/4 beat, the hypnotic phasing of the main keyboard sound, the expertly arranged percussion. The comments on the release in discogs are a testament to the influence this record has had although the A side, ‘Cosmic Dancer’ passes me by, it’s all about the B side in my book.

Deep techno soundscape flavour from the Chicago based producer Steven Hitchell, excuse the authentic vinyl crackles at the beginning, adds a little character anyway. I haven’t got access to my record cleaning machine to run it through at the moment but there appears to be plenty of copies available to buy for yourself. Entices you in with the reverb and echoes then chugs along on an introspective journey.
