Props must be sent in ck’s direction for introducing me to this compilation, a worthy charity shop score for him some years ago which I had to get myself. He was fond of the Marvin Rainwater track “Tennessee Houn’ Dog” which we would both attempt to yodel along to, badly, after drinking copious amounts of red wine into the wee hours, ending up slumped on the couch in a position not unlike the cowboy in the picture. Despite the bland title, this compilation has strength and depth that avoids the usual clichéd country selections with some lesser known songs. If you have ever had feeling that you simply can not be arsed… with doing anything, then the world weary delivery of Carson Robison should resonate. Although this compilation was released in 1965, the song itself was a worldwide hit in 1948.
