A slight departure from the norm in that this is currently unreleased; heard it on the digital radio station that is BBC 6Music a few weeks ago. I was enjoying a racy Friday evening at home listening to Tom Robinson’s show as he was laying down an audio soundtrack for those of us not getting smashed out of our brains in pubs/bars the length and breadth of the country in the traditional British end-of-week ritual. Stations like this keep me informed of contemporary non-electronic music so I can give the illusion of being ‘down with the kids’ and for that I am grateful. On first hearing this song, I thought it was new material by José González; however this is an amazingly simple tune that has depths as deep as a Scottish loch. From his forthcoming album Home, which is available on vinyl in limited quantities to pre-order from the online retailer Boomkat, please buy them all but leave one for me. Barry Louis Polisar – All I Want Is You

If I ever get around to learning to play the acoustic guitar that I bought eight years ago, it will cease to be a fake accoutrement of my musical ability and instead be used to serenade a lady around a camp fire; this would be one song that I would learn to play. A simple acoustic song (well, apart from needing the ability to play the harmonica at the same time if performed) that I came across after watching the film Juno; short and sweet, maybe the lyrics are a little too saccharine for some but they tug at the incurable romantic in me. The whole soundtrack is well worth a listen and although this song originally appeared on Barry Louis Polisar‘s album, Old Dogs New Tricks, I prefer the stripped down version used in the opening credits in the film which you can view on YouTube.
