A new release by Leonid is something that I look out for and get excited by despite or maybe because of the fact that his small number of releases have been of such high quality. This is the third vinyl release and it maintains the high standard as set out with his debut on Statik Entertainment and continued with his second, the Sadim twelve that was released last year on Sistrum. All tracks here make a strong case to acquiring this release however my favourite is the title track J3, a dreamy deep soundscape that I am so partial to. Perseid takes a few leaves from the Echospace book of dubbed-out sounds without disappearing into a minimal black-hole of tediousness whilst S&H has a slightly mournful note with a growling bass that really had to be heard when played quite loud on a good sound system. A small gripe but either the pressing isn’t very good or the copy I received wasn’t as new as I was led to believe as it plays with more than it’s due share of pops and crackles for a new record.

I’m really looking forward to buying this but by the sounds of it it has the same problems that my copy of Sadim had too – pops and sometimes skips on the pressing. Still the music is great.

From what I can remember, my copy of Sadim is fine. An online buddy got back to me and said his copy played fine, so perhaps I just got a duff pressing. Annoying but not the end of the world, these tracks unfortunately highlight the flaws.

I must have got a bad one then – shame. Had a similar problem with Black Jazz Consortium’s Blacklight release too!
Still gonna get this one.
