A totally ‘fun’ mix to indulge in, with a tracklist chosen around the theme of space and aliens and early sound effects created by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Some less-than-serious music mostly from, I’m guessing, the 50s but an inspiring selection that’s been crafted together with care. Came across this mix after I’d signed up with a beta invite to a new streaming music site called MixCloud where you can upload your own mixes that people can then listen to streaming over the net. They’re not open to the public at time of writing but this mix by Monster Bobby was created to play in venues before his band, The Pipettes, came on.

No entries for awhile, been busy learning some software to re-design the main part of the site, move the old content across and make it easier to add new material; it’s been over two years since it was last updated so probably not before time. Today I give you a cautionary tale about drink driving to meet your girl who’s ‘two six packs away’, that’s a lot of beer even if they’re the small bottles that you can get from France on a booze cruise. A wrecked car and a prison sentence in an American penitentiary where you’re always picking up the soap for other careless inmates was the fate that befell Dave Dudley, auto-alcoholics take note.

Songs about shagging, music has always been inextricably linked with SEX. The rhythmic beat of rock’roll that got right up the noses of puritan religious types back in the fifties through the epic orgasmic disco releases of the seventies; continuing today in all it’s myriad forms, some more subtle than others. I’ve plenty of obvious tracks to choose from and I will put one in particular up soon but this is an understated one. Don’t write it off because it’s Kenny Rogers! Although tame by what can be released in this day and age, it was pretty brazen stuff for the late sixties and created some controversy when it was released. The softness of the verses contrasting with the build up to the rock shouted choruses adds a real edge to it. It’s a real stab at laying down some music to get jiggy to, although with it clocking in at just under four minutes you would hope that your session would last a little longer.
