Those Italians sure know how inject sunny Mediterranean vibes into whatever they touch and this is no exception. Banderas’ biggest hit which they didn’t quite manage to capitalise on and exists in various different releases with loads of different versions. Quite like the Easy Life Mix by Less Stress but this positive treatment by Massimino & Fabio P is worthy of extra attention before the British summer *cough* completely slips away from us.

A song that must have formed part of the soundtrack of my very formative years as I’ve always recognised it as something I liked even if I didn’t know who it was by or what it was called. It was a hit back in 1982 but it shouldn’t be judged as ‘an eighties track’ as, in my opinion, there is a timeless quality about the fusion of eastern and western styles even if Monsoon were labelled as a ‘concept band’ by some as it works extremely well.

When he’s not concocting weird and impenetrable plots for his next movie, David Lynch also dabbles in music and produced this album along with Angelo Badalamenti. Like the better known track Falling this was also used in an episode of Lynch’s Twin Peaks tv drama and also released as a single on the back of the critical success of the series. However, save yourself the trouble and get the version on the album instead which is not edited like on the single releases, the remixes don’t add anything either for me.

It’s a philosophy for living, Vangelis as guru, advising us all on life’s journey; let it happen. Introduced to this piece by good friend Mike P and when he first played it to me, I immediately recognised the intro which had been sampled by Beanfield on their track ‘Keep On Believing‘ which itself I had first heard on Kruder & Dorfmeister’s excellent DJ Kicks mix cd. Beanfield did a good job re-contextualising that sample but I love it when you come across the source of the inspiration, I mean if you love the track with the sample, you’re almost guaranteed to like the track it comes from… most of the time.
You can get the track from Vangelis’ Earth lp, he’s was a right hair bear back then wasn’t he?
