A not too inconsiderable break to the blog posts but back on the musical train of all things good. This smooth jackin’ slab of deepness has been marinating as a draft, time to give it the space it deserves. Don’t know much about Anonym but the name kind of suggests a wish to remain in the background and let the material speak for itself.

In an effort to blog more new releases closer to the actual date they are released, thereby giving people a greater chance of actually purchasing them; here is a track that previously appeared on the Planet Delsin sampler. Whilst that particular release has become very sought after and consequently quite hard to find at a reasonable price, this is a welcome re-pressing on vinyl for Floatation Tank. Don’t hesitate too long to decide whether to click ‘Buy’ though; as with all pressings today, one thing you can be sure of is that the runs they do at the pressing plants are very small compared to say, a decade earlier. This is a fine piece of polished techno that’s fittingly titled, I doubt it’s piped into any real floatation tanks but it’s a testament to it’s smoothness that despite the techno tempo, it probably wouldn’t sound that out of place. A release by John Harvey that is up to the consistent high standard of his other productions.

I like a bit of dancehall ‘cept that I have about three records that could be described as such and I don’t tend to hear an great deal going about my day-to-day life but I heard this at a night out in Brixton, a likely place as any to hear it. Simple track, driven by the relentless half-rapped/half-sung delivery over the basic track in the background.

LTJ Bukem – Feel What You Feel

Despite my gushing praise of a mix that I bought back in ‘92 and owning quite a few of the drum’n'bass releases by him and others on the Good Looking band of labels (sadly mostly lost to water damage in an incident); I paid no attention to any of his releases after I went to live abroad at the end of the nineties or even after I returned. It wasn’t until Jenifa Mayanja played this track on one of her early shows on MotionFM.com that I was enjoying via the archives they keep and KERRR-POW!!! I was knocked over by the polished ethereal-ness for which Bukem is reknowned. Listen, close your eyes and dream dreams of sunrises over utopian dancefloors in woodlands of elation… which sounds quite wanky but we all deserve a moment of blissful rapture though some can articulate it better than others.

Quite a leftfield sound from this Swedish band with a Japanese vocalist – a haunting, ethereal song. Simple arrangement with basically only two main parts: the vocals and a repeated piano melody, plus some strings and sound effects. Unusual and affecting.
