This song has been covered many times but the most recognisable version is probably by the jazz trumpeter and singer Chet Baker, with his very distinctive voice, released in 1952. This version stands up rightly by itself, with a sultry female vocal and understated warped bass sound; here in it’s full album version clocking in at just under ten minutes. The other mixes on the single release didn’t make it worth getting for me personally, it’s all about the original which is edited on the single release. Stick to the album version and drift off into a soulful reverie about dating ugly people on Valentine’s Day.
