Moved home + Fozzie Bear mix now online…
25th July, 2008 | 110 views

Apologies for the lack of updates, for the first time in over a year I have all my stuff under one roof and my own room. This includes having all my records in shelving and so easily browsable, which should make finding future blog entries alot easier and more frequent! Still don’t have a phone or internet connection unfortunately but my man at the ISP Control Centre, he say next Wednesday is when the switch is flicked. In the meantime, I’ve managed to find my cd copy of Fozzie Bear’s ‘Shake The Foundations Vol.2’ mix and have uploaded it for your delectation, link is in the original blog post.

Vince Watson - Live At Kozzmozz

If you’re not familiar with the work of Vince Watson then this is an excellent place to start. A live set that collated most of his then recent productions and remixes and as such an ideal introduction to his crisp techno ‘flava’. Just short of an hour long, it avoids getting too relentless with the beats and has plenty of lush sounds to keep you interested; hell, it would make a good workout mix if you’re that way inclined!

01. | 00:00 | Vince Watson – Sunrise
02. | 09:05 | Vince Watson – Meaning Of Life
03. | 11:20 | Vince Watson – Pure Innersense
04. | 16:07 | Vince Watson – Echoes From The Future
05. | 20:55 | Vince Watson – Intuitions (Original ‘Transmat’ Mix)
06. | 26:36 | Vince Watson – Sunset
07. | 30:17 | Vince Watson – Aurelon (Remastered Original)
08. | 35:01 | Oded Peled & Juho Kahilainen – Out Of Home (Vince Watson Remix)
09. | 40:31 | Vince Watson – Timeless (Live)
10. | 47:34 | Nico Awtsventin – Fracturhythm
11. | 52:09 | Vince Watson – Vanishing Point

Props must be sent in ck’s direction for introducing me to this compilation, a worthy charity shop score for him some years ago which I had to get myself. He was fond of the Marvin Rainwater track “Tennessee Houn’ Dog” which we would both attempt to yodel along to, badly, after drinking copious amounts of red wine into the wee hours, ending up slumped on the couch in a position not unlike the cowboy in the picture. Despite the bland title, this compilation has strength and depth that avoids the usual clichéd country selections with some lesser known songs. If you have ever had feeling that you simply can not be arsed… with doing anything, then the world weary delivery of Carson Robison should resonate. Although this compilation was released in 1965, the song itself was a worldwide hit in 1948.

If I ever get around to learning to play the acoustic guitar that I bought eight years ago, it will cease to be a fake accoutrement of my musical ability and instead be used to serenade a lady around a camp fire; this would be one song that I would learn to play. A simple acoustic song (well, apart from needing the ability to play the harmonica at the same time if performed) that I came across after watching the film Juno; short and sweet, maybe the lyrics are a little too saccharine for some but they tug at the incurable romantic in me. The whole soundtrack is well worth a listen and although this song originally appeared on Barry Louis Polisar‘s album, Old Dogs New Tricks, I prefer the stripped down version used in the opening credits in the film which you can view on YouTube.
