Strange quirky track, the way the male vocals are delivered can take some getting used to but it’s a fun latin disco tune. Play it to folk who don’t take themselves or the music they listen to, too seriously.

I get the impression that this track is a sort of clichéd staple of lounge music, the meat and two veg for cocktail bars in swanky hotels the world over. The organ melody as it starts and the ‘bada-da-da-da-dup’ spoken sound chorus make it very recognisable even if you weren’t aware of who it’s by or where it’s from. Slip on your safari jacket, light up a Senior Service in your cigarette holder as you schmoov the bar.

No entries for awhile, been busy learning some software to re-design the main part of the site, move the old content across and make it easier to add new material; it’s been over two years since it was last updated so probably not before time. Today I give you a cautionary tale about drink driving to meet your girl who’s ‘two six packs away’, that’s a lot of beer even if they’re the small bottles that you can get from France on a booze cruise. A wrecked car and a prison sentence in an American penitentiary where you’re always picking up the soap for other careless inmates was the fate that befell Dave Dudley, auto-alcoholics take note.

Deep is as deep does, down deeper we go, in search of more adjectives to describe it’s deepness but no we can’t and instead just nod our heads sagely, deep in thought and time, d-e-e-e-e-p, and see how many mentions of deep we can get into one long deep sentence. A sublime track with a sound that epitomises deepness, melding with the alpha waves of your brain and taking your mind away…

Fozzie Bear - Shake The Foundations Vol.2

Like alot of musical genres that you may not be that familiar with, there’s so much music out there that, whilst you know that there must be tracks that you’ll probably like, you haven’t got the time to find ‘em and buy all the other music you normally do! That’s why finding a mix like this is gold dust; an expert in the field offers up a set that cuts through all the BS and lays down something that you instantly understand. A superb selection that gets played regularly at Chukkle Towers; would love to get hold of some of these sevens especially all the Brickwall riddim ones.

The author of this mix now has it online as well, please click here.

DJ MIX: LTJ Bukem – Mellow
17th June, 2008 | 3,624 views

One of my favourite mixes, period; it’s been part of my life for so long that it’s like a family member. Bought from a small shop that sold trendy ‘club wear’ in Chelmsford where I studied, that also sold mixtapes. We’ll forget about the baggy zebra-stripe Gio Goi shorts that I spent forty quid on which made me look like a clown; the guys who ran it were real clubheads and had good connections for some of the best mixtapes around, both nationally known djs and local ones. It’s fortuitous that I managed to rip the cassette to the computer and burn onto cd before it wore out and snapped which was an unfortunate circumstance that befell another prized deep house mix that belonged to ck. That mix (which was held in as high regard as the Bukem one) was by Dean Savonne; a victim of it’s excellence, chewed up by the car stereo.

It became an obsession to identify and then hunt down and buy all the tracks on this Bukem mix, only one left but it’s taken over ten years to get to this stage. The mixing is tight, transitions quick. No long snooze-a-thon mixes here, an average of three minutes a track and the next is being seamlessly blended in. Having listened to this mix hundreds of times, I’m biased but it’s all killer no filler; you could not get a better overview of what deep house sounded like in ’91/’92. If I had to choose, my favourite tracks would be the Masters At Work, QX-1 and M.C.J. releases; the M.C.J. one especially, I didn’t know what the track was until a few years ago when someone ID’ed it on a forum. I’ve hosted this mix online since 2003 and it’s been downloaded thousands of times, tracks from here will definitely be featured by themselves on this blog in the future.

Acid Techno – want to know what it sounds like? Click on the flash player above and you’ll have over thirteen minutes assaulting your eardrums and brain. The sound of grimy squat parties in the 90s, massive speaker stacks emitting thousands of kilowatts of sound. A track owing it’s existence to the Roland TB-303 which had first been used for this purpose around ten years earlier.

DJ MIX: Dave Lee’s Disco Mix
16th June, 2008 | 416 views

A mix of disco, funnily enough, although there are a couple of other changes of tempo and flavours lurking within of a more soulful and funky leaning. This mix opened my eyes to a whole new world of disco glitter… and wallet-stretching rare tunes to attempt to find and purchase. I mean, Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro) put together some scarce disco nuggets on this two hour mix; didn’t matter to him, ‘cos he’s already got them! I think alot of them are his own edits and he throws a few samples over the top of some tracks as well, like the spoken word bits over Gino Soccio. I broke my own ceiling on what I thought I would ever spend on a single record getting a rare disco mix of Gladys Knight And The Pips. I’ve seen original copies of the Ashford & Simpson’s One More Try go for over £300 on eBay, far in excess of what I would or could pay, so made do with a bootleg until I find the original for tuppence in a charity shop.

Luckily even though this mix is from 2004, the wonderful chaps at milkaudio.com are still hosting it. Be advised that it is a fairly low quality RealAudio streaming file, I’ve also uploaded it to TipTop.
